DAY ONE: 5:23 pm -226 words

Here's the story so far: ( I only changed a couple of words. Really.)

Everything was great until the prince killed the dragon and rescued the sleeping princess. Oh, sure, every other village didn’t look forward to the annual dragon attacks. All that breathing fire, rampaging and capturing unsuspecting maidens got a little tiresome, what with the young men running around with armor and lances and neglecting their jobs, pets and general hygiene.

Our dragon had been hanging around, guarding the castle – or, more specifically, the sleeping princess within – for about 100 years. We were jiggy with that, as the young people used to say. I hope that means we didn’t mind it. Anyway, once in awhile we’d get some prince from out of the area who thought he could kill the dragon, wake the princess and live happily ever after.

We tried to discourage them. Seriously, the princess had been in there quite awhile and no one held out much hope that she’d be – uh, presentable. I don’t want to get too graphic. Fairy tales are usually rated G, even relatively modern ones. But we knew that magic had its limitations and keeping someone alive, frozen or something, isn't even possible with real science yet. And in any case, we didn’t want that family woken up – ever. For any reason. That dragon/witch could guard that castle/princess forever for all we cared. Her whole family had been nothing but trouble anyway.

Uh oh. Now what?

Go make dinner, that's what.
